Obituary of Rose Ann Sweigert

Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rose Ann Berger was born in Temperance, Michigan on January 25, 1933. She was one of two children born from the union of William and Dora Rose (Magsig) Berger. After graduating in 1950 from Summerfield High School, Rose Ann pursued her passion for education, acquiring a Bachelor's Degree and teaching certificate from Michigan State Normal College, which is now known as Eastern Michigan University. For thirty-four fruitful years, she molded young minds as a fourth-grade teacher at Dundee Community Schools until her well-deserved retirement in 1994.

On June 15, 1957, Rose Ann married the love of her life, Walter “Jake” Sweigert, at the Congregational Church in Dundee. The happy couple was blessed with the birth of a daughter and a son.  They remained married until the Lord called Jake home on September 3, 1999.

Rose Ann was a member of the Michigan Education Association, the National Education Association, the Dundee Area Senior Citizen’s Center, the Salvation Army’s Bed and Bread Club, the Humane Society of Monroe County, and Dundee Baptist Church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, evident through her service at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ida as director of Vacation Bible School and treasurer, and at Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Lambertville as director of the Women’s Bible study and treasurer. Rose Ann looked for opportunities to share God’s Word everywhere she went.

Family was Rose Ann's anchor, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Whether camping in scenic Michigan locations or engaging in friendly card games, like Euchre, she radiated joy. An avid reader, she stayed updated with local events in the words of the newspaper, and she found comfort in reading the Bible and Guideposts. In fact, leading the Women's Bible study at Amazing Grace Baptist Church was not just a role for Rose Ann; it was a source of fulfillment and connection and, most importantly, teaching others about Jesus’ love and His Salvation.

Her love for sports knew no bounds, as she cheered passionately for her favorite teams to bring home the win. All the University of Michigan sports teams, especially football, the Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Lions held a special place in her heart.  On occasion, she has been seen sporting a jersey donning Matthew Stafford’s name on the back.

Rose Ann Sweigert, age 91, a beloved member of the Dundee Community, passed on to be in glory with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 11:58am on Tuesday; March 19, 2024. In addition to her husband, her passing was preceded by her parents and a brother: William Berger.
